The GHC-II measures the specific heat capacity of solid materials at different temperatures by the method of mixtures with computer data acquisition. A tubular vertical resistance furnace heats the specimen before it is dropped into a calorimeter.

The GHC-II uses the method of mixtures: a solid specimen is heated in a vertical tubular furnace and then transferred to a calorimeter, while computer acquisition records specimen and calorimeter temperature changes to determine specific heat capacity.
