A dilatometer measures thermal expansion coefficients and shrinkage of metals, ceramics, glass, and composite materials. Measurement precision is ±0.1 μm, and the temperature-control range is room temperature to 1,600 °C.
The instrument uses a displacement sensor and temperature-control system to record small dimensional changes during heating and cooling. It supports automatic temperature-program control, data acquisition, curve display and analysis, storage, export, and report generation. An inert-gas protection system is used where high-temperature oxidation or deformation must be controlled.
Block, plate, and filament specimens can be mounted. Applications include material development, finished-product inspection, process optimization, and thermal-property research. Maintenance includes periodic sensor calibration and furnace cleaning.
